Playing golf at Bear Mountain is magical! What makes this
an international class destination is the choice of two outstanding
18-hole layouts. First, opened in 2003, the Nichlaus-designed Mountain
course gave us a truly stunning example of golf imagination. Then in
June 2009, the equally incredible Valley Course was opened for play.
The choice is there, two world-class layouts to suit anyone who loves
to play golf. The Mountain Course played host to some of the best players
in the world in June 2010 as host to the
Telus World Skins Game. Five of the best players in the world -
Mike Weir, Camillo Villegas, Fred Couples, Ian Poulter and Retief Goosen
battled over 18 holes in a winner-take-all event.
The Mountain Course uses the remarkable natural environment to 'place'
a golf course amid the rocks and trees of Vancouver Island. The molding
around the natural setting is a stunning. Secondly, the panoramic views
you get on portions of the Mountain Course, deliver a stunning visual
postcard of your day at Bear Mountain. Bring your camera.
The course is state-of-the-art in the service it delivers
each golfer. Your green fee includes a cart seat. Each cart is equipped
with GPS (Global Positioning System). Park your cart beside your ball
and all the necessary information between your ball and the hole is clearly
indicated. Please note - this is a cart-only course. The reason for this
will become evident when you travel from green to the next tee.
Speaking of tees, there are 5 tee boxes to choose from.
This allows you to match your game to the length of course that suits
you. Gone are the days of 'men's' and 'ladies' tees. Look at two factors
in deciding which set of tees suits you. Consider the total yardage you
feel comfortable playing (18 hole total) and next look at the 'slope'
on the score card.
One final suggestion - expect to spend a good portion of your day at this
facility. keep in mind, you are not just playing 18 holes of golf - this
is a golf experience to be savored. Your round of golf will take about
4:40. The reason for the extra time is an extra hole. That's right - 19
holes! After you finish number 14, you get to play one of the most magnificent
golf holes anywhere.
You
don't add this hole your score card; you don't even have to play it. But
what the heck? Here's where you have to have your camera ready. The city
and mountains view from this hole are remarkable. See for yourself!
Because there is so much to see, get there well ahead of your tee time.
Add to your warm-up at the start (you do warm-up don't you?), your post-game
analysis, plus a look at the residential opportunities and you can see
why a good portion of your day is necessary.
Bear Mountain is not only a golf course - it's a golfing memory in the
making!
