When you pass through the stone
gates of the entrance, you will make a short drive up a hill, to be met
by a bit of heaven. Rated as one of the top thirty five golf courses in
Canada by Score Magazine, #20 by Best Golf Experience in Canada and by
USA West, Fairways and Green, Olympic View has something for every golfer.
The course has been carved out of the pristine wooden area bordering the
Sooke Hills. The four separate tee boxes allows for enjoyment by any level
of golfer.
Why not take a Video
Tour of the great sites that Olympic View has to offer.
If prior to your first time of play at Olympic View you're unaware of
the term 'dogleg', you're in for a quick lesson. Many of the par fours
make sharp bends left and right. For this reason, a well placed shot off
the tee will be more help that a long distance belt. The first two holes
are your introduction to the dogleg. Things straighten out a bit for holes
3,4 and 5 but be warned, there are more to come.
The number one handicap hole on the course is a doosy -- hole number 8.
Make par on this brute and treat yourself to an extra tall cool drink
after your round. It's fairly long with water tempting your drive if you're
long off the tee. If you don't belt one well out, you're faced with an
up hill, bunker-guarded, elevated green more than two hundred yards away.
If you manage to get on in regulation, the two-tiered green will need
patience and dexterity. Remember to kiss your ball if you get par on this
great hole.
If you have a camera with you, get it ready for a shot on the signature
hole #17. The waterfall that frames the back of the green makes for a
great shot of someone putting on the green. Remember still pictures never
tell whether you made the putt or not. Video never lies! The 18th is a
challenging finishing hole of the first order. You won't see the green
from your tee shot, but be assured these is a green somewhere around the
bend. A much needed centre-seeking tee shot is needed, because the latter
half of the hole is almost all up hill. The final green is a real challenge
too as it has more break than first appears. Your final walk up to the
clubhouse will cap a memory-filled day. The Olympic View Clubhouse offers
full restaurant and conference facilities for 350 people (one of the largest
in the area). Your final 'resting' place offers outstanding views of number
1, 10 and 18.
The fully stocked golf shop offers: Callaway, Taylor Made, Wilson, Ping,
Odyssey and Cleveland. Clothing lines: Ashworth, Cutter and Buck, Aureus,
Sun Ice, Wilson, Heavenly Bodies and Foot Joy.
GBC Golf Academy
Is there anything finer than practicing every golf shot off natural elements
- that's grass or sand? The way your shoes grip, to the feel of a well-carved
divot, grass is the only surface that a golf shot should be practiced.
If only, eh? Sand on the other hand is nature's way of taking you back
to the beach-digging days of your childhood.
Practice heaven awaits at the GBC Golf Academy. Olympic View and not far
away Arbutus Ridge are the only two such full practice facilities of its
kind on Vancouver Island. There are practice facilities and there's this
practice academy. Lessons packages are tailor to your need, whether it's
private, group, junior or even golf schools.
The BCG Golf Academy is led by two exceptional teaching professionals.
Lori Randle was named the 2006 BC PGA Teacher of the Year and husband
John Randle is the 2002 BC PGA Teacher of Year. Who doesn't want to get
better?
The practice area of the BCG GOlf Academy at Olympic View has been voted
as the Number One practice facility by Pacific Golf Magazine - Readers
Choice Awards 2005. Listen to the line up of what's there. Nine grass
tee areas, five target greens, three short game areas taking up more that
14 acres. Practice there once and you will see why it's been voted number
one.
