Sorry, but there is no bridge to get here,
meaning transport via water or air are the only ways of getting to
our island. Two bodies of water separate Vancouver Island from the
U.S. and mainland B.C. Juan de Fuca Strait separates Vancouver Island
from the Washington State to the south. To the east, Georgia Strait
is the stretch of water holding back the mainland of the province.
The mountains visible to the south of Victoria are
the famed Olympic Mountains. The majesty of these mountains is evident
by the almost year round snow cover, even in the warmest part of
summer. The one visual landmark that stands out in Washington state
is Mount Baker. This active volcano, north of Seattle is an overpowering
sight from the Canadian side. Many area golf courses will have this
magnificent mountain in view.
Via Water - as either a foot passenger or using your vehicle:
B.C. Ferries
- about an hour and a half crossing to Vancouver. This method gives
you your greatest options, as this ferry services runs many times
a day year round. BC Ferries takes both foot passengers and vehicle
traffic.
Blackball Ferry
- links Victoria to Port Angeles Washington for both vehicles and
foot passengers

interest on the San Juan's

Airport.

A Word of Advice: If you're traveling in a vehicle
and have time on your hands, consider making the trip from Victoria
to Port Angeles, Washington and make the drive along the gorgeous
Olympic Peninsula to Seattle. There are great golf courses and many
fine places to visit and stay. Don't be in too big a hurry to get
to Seattle if time allows.
